Atop The Rift Escarpment

At the edge of the Rift Valley Escarpment, overlooking Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania. This magical setting perfectly captures the majesty of the African landscape. I can’t think of a better way to spend a day than driving down into the park in the early morning to observe Manyara’s spectacular wildlife, then climbing back atop the escarpment late in the afternoon to watch the evening fade over paradise. The constantly changing light, color, and atmosphere visible from this 1,800 ft. high vantage point– a place where the African continent is literally tearing itself apart– are unforgettable. To experience so much limitless space and beauty is to gain a better understanding of the meaning of uhuru: the Swahili word for freedom.
